Masking was accomplished by simply rolling huge lengths of black erosion cloth down over the ticket booths. The central kiosk was disguised by erecting a three sided pyramid over it. An inverted pyramid suspended from the ceiling was added to cover the central speaker and light cluster as well as to reinforce the duality of "that which is above is like that which is below". Light wooden frames covered with burlap and lightly marbled with paint provided a suitable disguise for all the store windows. We were fortunate in our dealings with the Station management. Much of our decor could be left in place if it was outside of the public areas and as we wanted to locate our soloists in various positions off the floor - some as high as the clerestory windows just below the vaulted roof - this worked to our advantage. With minimal masking, these platforms and settings could be left in place. |
