The next location we examined took this even further.
The Toronto Subway service garage had several things in its favour. The
audience could be brought by subway car - they could meet at a certain
station at a certain time and get on the special car. An introduction
could be provided during the journey to the garage. Once inside, the cars
would stop over a pit from which we could beam bright lights through fog
for a dramatic entrance. They might move to the end of the garage where
a huge rolling stage (a platform for moving the cars from one side of
the garage to the other) could bring the orchestra toward the audience.
In the end, however, the difficulties of working around a working garage became insurmountable. Still following the idea of train arrival, we looked briefly at a service yard in Etobicoke (just west of Toronto), then thought about Union Station. |
