Chamber Works
The String Quartets
Schafer's eleven string quartets occupy a special place in his repertoire and are considered to be among his most important works. The medium is pushed beyond traditional limits by the incorporation of spatial dislocations, movement and vocalization, but in each work the musical argument is always paramount. Although composed at different times in Schafer's career they contain many relationships and have been frequently performed together.
Recordings of the string quartets one through twelve are recorded on ATMA Classique by the Molinari Quartet.
N.B. There are parts for many of Schafer's string quartets but for some of them players play from full scores. Some works are now available digitally.

Due to the rapid rise in postage rates, Arcana Editions is no longer able to pay the postage on orders. USA: Prices in the catalogue are in Canadian Dollars. The rate between Canadian and US Dollars is now quite close, and it will be easier for American customers to pay in US currency.
Europe, Japan and All Other Countries: Prices are in Canadian Dollars. Payment may be made in various ways. By Money Order through the Post Office, or by International Bank Draft. Direct Wire payments may also be made by following the instructions at the end of this paragraph. For urgent orders, this is the fastest way to pay, but a $15.00 charge must be added to your bill if you choose this method since this is what the bank charges us to process the transaction.
